If you want to start playing L5R don't make a deck first thing. Borrow a friend's deck if you want to learn the game. But first thing, pick a faction. L5R is a great game but what keeps the players coming back is the story.
The first deck I built was a craptastic
Khol Wall deck. Admittedly, I picked Unicorn since it was recommended to me because no one else in the store was playing it. However, as a nerd, I have a fondness for o…

As we stand on the threshold of the 2009 Kotei Season, there is a new reason to attend each tournament within reach. The Celestial Edition Mega Game commences this October, and the results of this year’s Kotei tournaments will impact how the Mega Game plays out in subtle and various ways. Each victory for your clan may move you one step closer to surviving the trials ahead, if you are canny. Each opportunity lost may cost you dearly if compounded by foolish choice.
But now the 2009 Kotei Season…

A new year has dawned for Legend of the Five Rings, and 2009 will be like no other you have taken part in. At AEG, we’ve been scrutinizing what we do, and most of all at what we believe we could do better. Looking back over the last fourteen years, and as we look forward to many more, we saw that we had convinced ourselves of certain things, of sacrosanct themes and traditions and tropes that we felt could n…

So many blogs... I don't really need another one, so I'll just give the link for my current one. :}

I may update here specifically if I have something to say about L5R in particular that wouldn't go in my blog, though. :)

Hey All,
Well I pulled the Yume-do Talisman through for the Crane, loosing 1 game in the swiss only thanks to nightmare draw (3x ASF + 2x Hamstrung doesn't work against Big Force Crab). Several games where won through opponent mistake, but in the end the preparation I had done paid off.
With that in mind thanks to all the folks that have been letting me test against them on Egg. Smiley
First Pick: Asahina Beniha
2nd Pick: Doji Hariya
Item: Pillow Book
Here's the deck, re…

I see this question come up every once in awhile on the forums. Alot of people keep wanting to know what the trick is to being a good GM. While experience goes a long way to being a good GM I think the first step to being a good GM is truly the ability to simply say No.
GMing a game is a daunting task. You have to figure out a reason for a group of 4 to 6 characters (whom may or may not all be from the same clan) to work together. You have to design cities and in some cases an entire empire. Yo…

Well, it's a new year and that means time for resolutions, right? Ok, here are mine.
#1. Get Art of War out. Yeah, yeah, we've had problems, some in our control, some out of our control, but very soon I plan to get in there swinging elbows and make this thing hit the store shelves. It's just too good of a product. And with the Race out of the way I can focus on it.
#2. Get Death at Koten in every comic shop possible. We're already doing a variant cover for comic stores, so there's a reason to…

So this is as good of a place to keep tabs on myself right? So Shawn put me in charge of getting the web supplements for Masters of Court and Masters of Magic done. So far me and my team have completed the paths and dojo's. Work on the NPC's has begun. Courts have been selected and flavor work is beginning.
Paths for Masters of Magic are complete and already in playtesting as well. So with luck I hope to get this all wrapped up and finished by the end of the month.

To put it mildly I'm not happy about the Kotei allocation when I look at the Australasian Regions. Maybe its that the people at AEG don't understand just how big Australia is (Its about the same size as the continental US without Alaska fyi). Maybe its because a simple "hey what about that Samurai fund?" e-mail couldn't have been sent before GenCon US to all the 2007/8 Kotei Organisers. Maybe its because someone at AEG (and I'll be clear here, Colson) didn't respond to an e-mail enquiry wrt the…

There should be a lot more videos. I would love to actually watch some people play matches but that apparently doesn't exist.

So some people were surprised to see this pop up. The fact is this is something I've wanted to do for L5R for quite a while. We have a group on Facebook, and many Clans have active to semi-active MySpace accounts, but as the Brand Manager I've always felt this was the direction to go in reaching out to new people. Of course, things like the Race, day to day work, etc. have made doing new things like this difficult. But if I don't start it it won't get done, so here it is.
All I can say is thank…
